Weiner To Mayor: I’ll Go With You
This weekend, Mayor Bloomberg will go to Ghana to make a pitch for the Olympics, says Congressman Anthony Weiner in a prepared statement. Weiner announced that he had sent a letter to the Mayor offering to participate in the trip in a bi-partisan spirit, if it would assist the bid. Weiner released the following statement:
“It has been widely reported that the relative lack of public support for New York City’s Olympic bid has been a drag on our Olympic prospects. “Now that the source of much of that opposition—the West Side stadium—has been replaced, we have an opportunity to make up our lost ground. “Real leadership means putting aside our differences when the good of the city is at stake. Winning the Olympics will be good for the city.
“If the IOC is uneasy about the commitment of New York City to winning the Olympics and seeing it through, we need to answer their qualms with a show of bi-partisan solidarity. “To that end, I am prepared to participate in the trip Ghana, if that would be helpful.
“We should send a clear message to the IOC that whoever ends up leading the city in November will be committed to making the Olympics a success.”
