Nabbed In Nassau For Far Rockaway Shooting

By Howard Schwach

A Far Rockaway man was nabbed by units from the 101 Precinct and Nassau County Police Department on Bayfield Avenue in Lawrence on Tuesday afternoon, after he fired a number of shots at four unidentified men nearby Nameoke Street and Redfern Avenue at about 3:45 p.m. Police sources identify the shooter at Barry Cozart, 19. They say that they have no motive for Cozart’s shooting spree, but believe it came from an earlier confrontation.

After shooting at the four men, and missing each time, Cozart reportedly got on his bike and peddled out of New York City to Lawrence in nearby Nassau County.

Police from the 101 Precinct, responding to the call, quickly corralled Cozart with the help of Nassau County police officers.

He was returned to the 101 Precinct stationhouse in Far Rockaway and then to Queens Central Booking in Ozone Park, where he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment.
