Summer School Programs Set For Peninsula

By Howard Schwach

The Department of Education has announced that summer school programs for public school students will begin on Tuesday, July 5.

There are actually three concurrent programs: The Summer Success Academy (Grades 2, 3 and 5); Summer School (Grades 4, 6, 7 and 8) and a Summer High School Program (for high school students.

The elementary and middle school programs will end on Wednesday, August 10. The High School Program will conclude on August 17 with Regents Examinations.

The Summer Success Academy and the Summer School Program will run from Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Both of those programs will provide breakfast and lunch to students. The High School Program will see students on Friday in addition to the other four weekdays, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Since the summer programs will be limited to a finite number of schools, many of the schools that have programs will be hosting students from other schools as well.

PS 105 in Edgemere, for example, will be hosting students from PS 42 as well.
