Test For State Court Officer Slated For October 22
Assemblywoman Audrey I. Pheffer has been contacted by the New York State Unified Court System, requesting her assistance with their recruitment effort.
The Office of Court Administration will be holding an open-competitive examination for New York State Court Officer - Trainee on October 22 and December 10, 2005. Candidates will be assigned and scheduled for only one of these dates, and should plan to spend about four hours at the test center. Admission notices will be sent to qualified candidates one week prior to the scheduled October 22nd test date, with the firm date, time and location of the test.
Assemblywoman Pheffer has a number of applications and fact sheets that describe the salary and benefits to employees serving in Unified Court Officer positions. The trainee starting salary begins at $33,203 yearly with annual location pay for certain areas in the State. After successfully completing a two-year traineeship program, individuals are appointed as New York State Court Officer, which carries a beginning salary of $41,751.
At the time of appointment, candidates must be at least 18 years old, possess a high school diploma or GED and be a U.S. citizen.
Court Officer Trainees serve a 2-year traineeship during which they are responsible for maintaining order and providing security in courtrooms, court buildings and grounds. Typical duties include escorting criminal defendants while in the court facility, escorting judges, juries and witnesses, handling court documents and forms, conducting search procedures, physically restraining or controlling unruly individuals, etc. Court Officer Trainees are required to wear uniforms and may be authorized to carry firearms, execute warrants and/or make arrests.
