Pheffer Beach Park Nears Completion

The new park being built on the sand at Beach 103 Street appeared early this week to be very close to completion. The colorful, nautical theme play unit – aimed at kids age 5-12 – has slides, climbers and other fun features. A palm tree spray shower is also part of the plan, according to the Department of Parks and Recreation. The park will be named in honor of Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer, who secured $150,000 to build it. The park was originally slated to open in time for Memorial Day, but at press time it remained unclear if it would be finished.

Notice the fish through which children will enter the top of the slide facing the shore (you can make out the fish’s eye and gills directly above the cab of the backhoe). The two bright yellow peaked roofs, which are just barely visible from Shore Front Parkway, have been attracting the attention of motorists for about two weeks.
