New Funeral Plans For Boy Found On Beach
Rev. Peter D. Gillen will lead a Mass at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Rockaway Beach on Saturday, May 21, for the boy whose body washed up on the beach in February.
The Wave reported last week that the Children of Hope Foundation announced funeral plans for the boy, but foundation president Tim Jaccard incorrectly stated the location of the service at that time.
The Children of Hope Foundation invites mourners to gather at the American Legion Post No. 1273, 3484 Park Avenue, Wantagh at 8 a.m. Saturday. Police department buses will provide transportation to the church and to the burial at Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, which will follow.
The funeral is under the direction of the Charles J. O’Shea Funeral Home in Wantagh.
For those who will be providing their own transportation, St. Rose of Lima is located at 130 Beach 84 Street in Rockaway Beach; Holy Rood is located at 111 Old Country Road in Westbury.
The Children of Hope Foundation is a not-for-profit organization and has helped bury about 80 abandoned infants since 1998. Donations to assist with the costs of burying the child may be sent to: The Children of Hope Foundation, 1490 Franklin Avenue, Mineola, New York 11501.
The boy, who was named “John Valentine” by the women who discovered him, was about 3-years-old, 3-feet tall and weighed about 30 pounds.
Anyone with information about his death is asked to call the Detective McFarland of the 100 Precinct Squad at (718) 318-4221.
