Sixth-graders at Channel View School for Research observed Arbor Day during the week of May 2 with a variety of multidisciplinary lessons on the world of plants, and a community service project. More than 100 students gathered on May 4 and 5 with teachers Vivian Carter, Laura Dimino, James Groff and Barbara Mannion and planted trees and shrubs at the Gateway Environmental Science Center at Floyd Bennett Field. Students Rory Harp and Anthony Thomas witnessed a wild rabbit.

Class 616, assisted by Dean Steve Raff and teacher, Vivian Carter, studied plants and trees in a courtyard at Beach Channel High School and made observations in their “naturalist’s journals” in preparation for the planting of a “meditation garden”.
