PHC Celebrates National EMS Week

The Peninsula Hospital Center recently celebrated National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week at the hospital. Dr. Michael Franklin, Director of the Emergency Medicine Department and Vicki Backus, Nursing Director of the Emergency Department at Peninsula Hospital Center treated NYFD EMS with breakfast and lunch in recognition of all the good work done by EMS throughout the year. Picking up the luncheon meal were (left to right) EMT Leslie Perez, EMT Chris Lipkin and Lt. David Burke of the Rockaway station. A photo display board was also set up in the PHC Emergency Department to recognize the important life-saving efforts performed on a daily basis by EMS. “The emergency care delivered to patients before they reach our Emergency Department can make all the difference,” commented Dr. Franklin.  “We are fortunate to have such capable EMTs working in Rockaway and the fact that our Emergency Department works extremely well with EMS greatly benefits our patients.” As an example of working together, Dr. Franklin recently held a well-attended lecture/workshop on emergency cardiac care at the Hospital Center.
