Painters Seek Apprentices

The Painters and Allied Trades Joint Apprenticeship and Training Fund, District 9, will conduct recruitment on June 3 for 100 painter, decorator and paperhanger apprentices.

Applications can be obtained in person only at the council, 45-15 36th Street, Long Island City, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Friday, June 3. The council requires that applicants be at least 18 years old; have a high school or GED diploma; be physically able to do the work; and attend an orientation.

Helping seniors make their lives safer and healthier will be the focus of the Health and Safety Fair to be held on Monday, May 23, 2005, from 11 am to 3 pm at JASA Brookdale Village, located at 131 Beach 19 Street.

There will be free screenings for high blood pressure, podiatry and depression, information on fall prevention, nutrition, emergency preparedness, fire safety, adult day care, elder abuse, and much more. Participants include: American Diabetes Association; Hunter Ambulance; Jewish Community Council of Far Rockaway; New York City Police Department; Fire Department of New York; St. John’s Community Mental Health Center; Sugar Free Express; and Visiting Nurse Service of New York.

There will be lots of giveaways. Refreshments will be provided. A very reasonably-priced kosher lunch is available by reservation at 718-471-3200.
