The 69th Regiment Armory on Lexington Ave, NYC which was the refuge for victims of 9/11 was all dressed and decorated in it’s finest to welcome members, friends and guests of Safe Horizon 10th annual Champion Awards Luncheon for victims of domestic violence and rape. It was a great occasion to honor Yankee Manager, Joe Torre who, with his wife, Ali have done such wonderful work through his Safe at Home Foundation which merged with Safe Horizons to aid the victims and change the laws in these cases. Now, when police are summoned they are ordered to arrest the attacker no matter what. And, therapy is provided for the children. This is something they never did years ago and is so very, very important. Children’s lives are devastated when growing up in a violent home. We listened to moving, emotional stories from survivors who pleaded with the victims to SHOUT IT OUT. The public must know how prevalent this problem is and how urgent it is that action be taken. Anyone who is or has been a victim must have the courage to SHOUT IT OUT. You could prevent another tragic crime. Make a difference. RAISE YOUR VOICES AND SHOUT.

One tantalizing taste after another at the gluttonous Grand Central Gourmet event. Top on the tongue and in tummy delights were: Red White and Blue chowder from the Oyster Bar; Metrazur’s Sea Scallops with Jekel Reisling, injected vanilla cognac in chocolate dipped strawberries from Commodore Grill; and, of course, the best filet of beef at Smith and Wollensky. Try these tasty tidbits from around this area when in town.

Hope all mothers had a Happy Mother’s Day. I often think of the years mothers spend raising children to be the best they can be and then off they go to different states or countries or there are marriage commitments or whatever and rarely get to see Mom on special occasions. This, of course, is when Mom needs family near by. I was happy to spend Mother‘s Day with my cousins Patty and Bobby Crowley, in his oh so beautiful home with their daughter, Nicole and Bobby’s Mom and Patty’s Mother-in-law, Gladys Crowley and her daughter, Caryn Fata. It was a beautiful dinner with good people and I thank them all.

Kaitlyn M. Greene, daughter of Kathleen Tolan Greene was inducted into the National Honor Society. She is a graduate of Our Lady of Mercy Academy and attended her Junior Prom last month. She is the granddaughter of Ellen M. Tolan. Jane Lee, former resident of Belle Harbor for 30 years inherited the house her father, Bob Lee built in 1971 on the bay. She is a new Breezy Point resident. Mary Collins is happy to return from her devastated apartment in Florida. The hurricane played havoc with it. She had a rough winter. Better days here this summer, Mary. It was good to see Jim Brady as he was rushing to get to his former wife, Jean’s grandson’s Holy Communion in Atlantic Beach. Richard is the son of Jean’s daughter, Debbie, and husband Rick. Earlier that day, Jim attended the Holy Communion for his grandson, Will, son of his daughter, Janet and husband Bill Ryan. Busy, busy man. And, thank you for your help.

Thought about the Rockaway Theater that should be commended for their very fine performances. When I attended the Obie Awards.at Webster Hall, NYC the other night. If they haven’t applied they should. It was an exciting evening, especially for the award winners: Jermy Shamus won for Engaged; Elizabeth Maarvel for Hedda Gabler; Cherry Jones for Doubt; Rosemary Allen for Good Samaritan; and more. Best designs went to Engaged and Woman Before A Glass; Director, Dan Wackerman for Doubt; Playwriter John Patrick Shanley for Doubt; Lynn Nottage for Fabulation; and on and on. Presenter for Special Citation was Rue McClannahan (Golden Girl). Elaine Stritch presented first half of the show. You can see portions of it on WNYX-TV this week.

Rockaway shoppers - four specially gift shops will be interested to know the showrooms previously at 225 Fifth Ave. have moved to a more beautiful location at 7 West 34 St. There you find the exquisite tabletops and Porcelain figures, furniture and fashions as well. You will really enjoy it as you roam floor to floor, everything in one building. Before I close thank you for your kind comments on my physical appearance. I owe it all to Dr. Kelly Malone in Great Neck for her Invisilift and Endermologie programs that have done wonders for me.

As Star Jones said, ”It Works.” That was in regard to endermologie. The facial invisilift works, too. All treatments - no pain, only pleasure. No invasive surgery. You will love it and more and more innovative treatments are on the way to correct what problems you may have. Dr.Matone is not only gorgeous (on the cover of MORE Magazine), but she received her M.D. from Mt. Sinai Hospital, NYC does not use any substances unless FDA approved.
