Arson Arrest In Hammels Houses

A Hammels teenager was arrested last Friday after a cop saw him use paper and a match to set fire to an apartment door in the housing complex, police said.

Rasheim Sutton, 18, allegedly stuffed paper into the peephole to apartment 2H at 85-02 Rockaway Beach Boulevard and then set the paper on fire using a single match, according to court records.

Police said the door to the apartment – which is occupied – was charred in the incident. They did not say what his motive was, or if anyone was inside when Sutton allegedly set the fire. No one was injured in the incident.

Sutton, of 84-14 Rockaway Beach Boulevard, also uses the last name Patterson. He is charged with second-degree arson, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass and second-degree criminal nuisance, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown’s Office.

At his arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on April 29, Judge William Harrington set Sutton’s bail at $2,500, and a return date of May 11.

Sutton’s attorney could not be reached for comment.
