Michael McCarthy, age 10, just completed his first season playing for the Freeport Arrows of the LIAHL Squirt Division. His team won 30 games and finished in third place to earn a league playoff berth. They also won three tournament championships and finished in third place in two other tournaments. In the last tourney of the season at Elmsford, N.Y. the championship game finished in a 1-1 tie with Michael scoring his team’s only goal. After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a five player per team shootout. After 4 shooters, the teams were still even. Michael took the final shot for the Arrows and scored to put them ahead. The Arrows goalie then stopped the final shooter from Brewster and the boys wrapped up their third title. All in all, it was a very exciting season as Michael finished with 42 goals and 32 assists and is looking forward to next season.
