Sorrentino Center Falls Short To Brownsville

The Sorrentino Center’s Team Grimey lost a bitter 54-52 battle to Brownsville Recreational Center last Wednesday at the N.Y.C. Teens At Parks/City of N.Y. Parks and Recreational 19 and under citywide tournament.

Down by 8 points in the third quarter, Grimey fought back to tie the game at 52-52 late in the fourth quarter. Calvin Brown gave them the lead with 30 seconds left but the referees, who had called many bad calls during the game, was charged with a palming violation and disallowed the basket.

Brownsville came back and scored to tale a 54-52 lead with 5 seconds left. Team Grimey could not get a shot off as time expired. Grimey were led by Calvin Brown’s 19 points, Jeremy Pruitt scored 18, Mike Walker had 12 and Robert Rucker scored 3 to round out the scoring.

The Sorrentino Recreational Center’s Unlimited Basketball Tournament is now underway with two games scheduled every Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. The championship will take place on May 26.

The Sorrentino Center proudly presents the 25th Annual Rockaway Double Dutch Championship that will take place on Saturday, April 23 starting at 10 a.m. City, state and out of state teams will compete.
