Julius A. BlosnickTaxi Co. Owner/Operator

  • Julius A. Blosnick, a Rockaway resident for more than 50 years, died April 14.
  • Blosnick, who was born in Brooklyn, Served in the United States Army during the late 1950s. He was the owner/ operator of Plaza Taxi, the first taxi service in the Rockaways.

    Blosnick was preceded in death by his sisters, Adrienne Watkins and Roslyn Kendrick.

    He is survived by his wife, Dorothy DeRosa Blosnick; brother, Ronald Gray; sisters, Jacqueline Endlich and Linda Rego; and many nieces and nephews.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A Mass was celebrated at St. Camillus. Interment was at St. John’s Cemetery in Middle Village.

    Margaret E. Fraser

    Homemaker

    Margaret E. Fraser, a longtime Rockaway Point resident coming from Jackson Heights, died April 15.

    Fraser, who was born in Manhattan, was a homemaker.

    She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Durbeck Korte; father, George E. Korte; and brother, Peter Kearns.

    Fraser is survived by her husband, William; daughters, Kimberly Fraser-Dillon, Krista Fraser-Mason and Meridith Fraser-Emerson; son, Joe; brother, Edward Korte (Hilda); grandchildren, Alexa Dillon, Mack Dillon, Justin Mason, Madelyn Mason and Jack Mason; and sons-in-law, Thomas Dillon, Wayne Emerson and Brian Mason.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral.

    Home. A Mass was celebrated at St. Thomas More in Rockaway Point. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.

    Norris Gibson Jr.

    Longtime Far Rockaway Resident

    Norris Gibson Jr., a longtime Far Rockaway resident, died April 13 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Brooklyn after a brief illness.

    Gibson is survived by his parents, Norris Gibson Sr. and Earline Langley; children, Darin Hill, and Justin and Jason Gibson; his wife and longtime friend, Dinah (nee Clemmons) Gibson; and his brothers, sisters, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Brooklyn Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

    Rebecca Hayes

    Domestic Worker

    Rebecca Hayes, a Rockaway resident for 50 years, died April 14. She was 70.

    Hayes was born in Bennettsville, South Carolina, on July 13, 1934. She was a domestic worker.

    Hayes was preceded in death by her parents, Edna Harrison Odom and Oacar Odom Sr.; sons, Runic, Randolph and Christopher.

    She is survived by her children, Linda, Dorothy (Bonnie), Thomas (Anthony), Valerie (nee-see) and Donald; granddaughter, Linda Renee (Peannie); a son-in-law; two daughters-in-law; sister, Mattie Williams; brothers, Willie-James and Rev. Oscar Odom Jr.; brother-in-law, Hazel Williams; sister-in-law, Samella Odom; aunt, Dorothy Harrison; 16 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and other family members and friends.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home. Visitation was held at the First Baptist Church in Far Rockaway. Interment was at Pinelawn Cemetery in Farmingdale.

    Veronica Iyona Tucker

    Nurse’s Aide

    Veronica Iyona Tucker, a Far Rockaway resident for nearly 40 years, died April 4, 2005. She was 72.

    Tucker was born in Camaguey, Cuba on July 26, 1932. She worked as a nurse’s aide for Resort Nursing Home and was an active member of the Macedonia Baptist Church of Far Rockaway.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Roslyn Tucker and George Lowry.

    Tucker is survived by her children, Mercedes, Vie, Maritza and Alfredo; and granddaughter, Yamilka Veronica.

    Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home. Visitation and services were held at Macedonia Baptist Church. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx.
