Nurses Sick Of Contract Negotiations

The Registered Nurses at Peninsula Hospital Center, who are among the lowest paid in the city and have been working without a contract for nearly a year, took to the street Wednesday to protest low pay and understaffing. “It’s just unsafe,” Regina Courtney, RN, said of staffing conditions. “We just can’t take the abuse anymore,” chimed in a coworker on the picket line. Contract negotiations are ongoing. A statement from the hospital cited “fiscal challenges” but said the goal was still “an amicable and appropriate settlement.
