Wilson Wins Heyward Scholarship

Devaughn Chet Wilson has been selected as the recipient of the first Cornelius Heyward Scholarship Fund Grant from the Far Rockaway Church of Christ. Currently enrolled in John Jay College for Criminal Justice, Wilson hopes to become a lawyer.

Cornelius Heyward, minister of the Far Rockaway Church of Christ, and the person for whom the scholarship is named, is pleased that Wilson won the first grant. “He is not only a Christian and active member of our congregation, he is an exceptional and brilliant individual with a good head on his shoulders,” said Heyward. “I think he knows that we are expecting great things from him.”The Cornelius Heyward Scholarship is available to any high school graduate residing and attending high school in Far Rockaway. Jeremiah C. Gaffney, owner of Jeremiah C. Gaffney Funeral Home is also a major contributor to the fund.
