Waves Break For First ‘Surfing Only’ Beach

For surfers, Beach 91 Street will be the place to be as city officials announce the opening of the first “Surfers Only” beach in New York City. On hand for the announcement will be New York City Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe; Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer, who spearheaded the state’s rules change to allow surfing only on a city beach and City Councilman Joseph P. Addabbo, Jr., who worked as the liaison between city officials and Rockaway residents to make the designation. The announcement will take place at the oceanfront and Beach 91 Street at 2 p.m. on April 22..
