Addabbo FHC To Honor Meeks At Dinner
The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center is set to honor Congressman Gregory W. Meeks Thursday, April 14, from 8:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. at their “Classic Soul Night” Benefit Concert which will also feature performances from Freddie Jackson, The Manhattans, and Ray Chew and the Crew at York College’s Performing Arts Center (located at 94-45 Guy R. Brewer Blvd. Jamaica, New York).
Congressman Meeks, a long time champion for the undeserved, most recently was able to secure $1.4 million in appropriation funding to assist the Health Center in its rebuilding and expansion project called the Mary McNeal Meeks Facility and new home of the main site for the Addabbo Family Health Center. This newly constructed state-of- the-arts facility is named after Congressman Meek’s mother, a long time and well loved community resident and activist. It will be located at 6200 Rev. Joseph H. May Drive (Beach Channel Drive).
The Health Center is the larger of only two Section 330-funded Federally Qualified Health Centers in Queens, and brings to Queens approximately $1.7 million in annual federal funding to care for the uninsured. The Addabbo Family Health Center currently operates out of four locations. In February of 2004, the Center broke ground for its new 21,500 square foot facility which will be completed this summer.
“With increasing numbers of uninsured patients, cuts in federal funding, and proposed state budget cuts putting community health centers and vulnerable patients at risk, I am committed to making sure that the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center continues to provide care of equal or greater quality for the residents of Queens,” stated Meeks.
