PS/MS 43 Students Visit Brooklyn Museum

Students from 43 toured and sketched at the special Jean-Michael Basquiat exhibit, which opened recently at the Brooklyn Museum.

The exhibit includes over 150 artworks in this retrospective.

Jean-Michael Baquiat was born in Brooklyn. His recognition grew from the graffiti he sprayed in Lower Manhattan. He rapidly ascended to fame but died of a drug overdose at 27 years old. Students were asked to study his drawings and paintings and then to recreate some of the images they saw. Sean Whitley, class 7-428, sketched one of the musicians that inspired much of Baquiat’s work.
