Sorrentino Center Basketball Turns Calendar To April

As the calendar turns into April, the Sorrentino Recreational Center continues to feature a lot of excitement with their basketball tournaments.

The N.Y.C. Teens At Parks/City of N.Y. Parks and Recreation 19 and under tournament crowned a new champion. Team Grimey defeated Tam Heat 74-69 last Wednesday to advance to the citywide Parks playoffs.

Team Grimey got a key layup from Darius Gabriel with under a minute left to take the lead for good against the Heat in a tight championship ballgame.

Grimey had beaten The All-Stars 69-66, and the Heat defeated Beacon 72-64 the previous night to advance to the championship. The 10 and under Learn To Play Basketball Tournament semifinals take place on Saturday. Sorrentino B vs. Sorrentino C will take place at 12:30 p.m. Sorrentino A takes on Rev. Mason at 1:30 p.m.

The 11-13 Learn To Play Basketball Tournament’s co-ed division will also have games on Saturday. Reverend Mason will go against Sorrentino A at 2:30 p.m. and Sorrentino B will take place on Sorrentino C at 3:30.

The Sorrentino Center, at 18-48 Cornaga Avenue, will hold a baseball clinic for boys and girls ages 12 and under on May 14.
