Sorrentino Center B/ball Hosts March Madness

The Sorrentino Recreational Center is loaded in March with numerous basketball tournaments that will satisfy fans of all ages. The 12 and under championships on Saturday found Sorrentino A defeating Redfern to advance to the Citywide Parks Department Championship.

The 11-13 Learn To Play Basketball Tournament’s co-ed division on Friday had Sorrentino A beat Sorrentino C. Reverend Mason defeated Sorrentino B.

Reverend Mason beat Sorrentino A and Sorrentino B defeated Sorrentino C in The 10 and under Learn To Play Basketball Tournament. Last Monday afternoon, Rev. Mason beat Sorrentino B and Sorrentino A won against Sorrentino C.

The N.Y.C. Teens At Parks/City of N.Y. Parks and Recreation 19 and under tournament featured one of the most exciting games in recent memory last Wednesday night.

Bishop Loughlin’s Darius Gabriel tipped in a missed jumper by Far Rockaway’s Jeremy Pruitt with 5 seconds left to give Team Grimey an 89-88 victory over the Team All-Stars. The Team All-Stars’ Robert McDowell was unstoppable as he scored 50 points in the game.

The Sorrentino Center, at 18-48 Cornaga Avenue, will hold a baseball clinic for boys and girls ages 12 and under on April 16.
