Nab Arverne Man For Shots Fired

Police bring Tayquan Jones into the 101 Precinct stationhouse.
Police bring Tayquan Jones into the 101 Precinct stationhouse. An Arverne man was arrested last Saturday morning after he allegedly fired a handgun several times as he stood with a group of people on the street, police said.

Officers spotted Tayquan Jones, 19, walking near Beach 51 Street and Elizabeth Avenue shortly after the shots rang out. Police said Jones tried to flee – tossing away a 9 mm handgun – when they tried to stop him.

Officers apprehended Jones, who had an empty magazine matching the recovered gun, police said. Six shell casings were also recovered from the scene.

Jones, who lives at 54-49 Almeda Avenue, told police he fired six or seven rounds, according to court records. He is charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest. Queens Criminal Court Judge Steven W. Paynter set bail at $75,000 and an April 1 return date.

Jones’ attorney did not return a call seeking comment.
