A History’s Mysteries Challenge, facilitated by Greg Carter, the president of the Rockaway Sports Association, had the student’s racing to the books. Through weekly educational workshops, trivia contests, a point system and fun and games, historic facts have become the buzz among some teens in the Rockaways. They are learning about American and world history, geography, government, politics, and more.

This six-week session culminated with the top two winners, Fiona Joseph and Juan Melendez, receiving free dinners sponsored by Adam Eury, the manager of Five Town’s Applebee’s restaurant. The next round of History’s Mysteries Challenge will began on March 18.

VNS Prep is an alternative high school class located in the Visiting Nurse Service Early Head Start Center in Rockaway Beach.

This program is part of Offsite Educational Services of the NYC Department of Education.
