SJEH Addresses Diabetes, Glaucoma

A talk for diabetics about glaucoma, “The Silent Theft of Sight,” will be given on Monday, March 28, at St. John’s Episcopal Hospital by Karen

Muir, Pharm. D.

The talk will be given free of charge in the Board Room at SJEH, which is located at 327 Beach 19th Street.

A person with diabetes is nearly twice as likely to get glaucoma

as other adults. And, as with diabetic retinopathy, an eye disorder

related to diabetes, the longer you have had diabetes, the greater your

risk of getting glaucoma. Glaucoma may be treated with medications,

laser, or other forms of surgery.

For more information about Diabetes Education Programs, please

contact St. John’s Episcopal Hospital at 718-869-7116. Refreshments

will be served.
