Rockaway Beach Volleyball League Prepares For 2005
Additionally, this is the time for all new individuals and teams to sign up for the new season.
As usual, there will be four different divisions with varying levels of skill.
In preparation for the season, the first critical date is fast approaching. Team captains are required to attend our first meeting of the year at Jameson’s Pub on Wednesday, 3/30 at 8:00 p.m. Captains should bring a deposit of $50 per team to insure a spot in the league.
Eric from Jameson’s is excited to host this first get-together and promises some drink specials to help quench your thirst.
All players are welcome to come out of hibernation and join the festivities. Prospective new referees are welcome to come by if you would like to be worked into our rotation.
You do not need to be a certified ref to work in the RBVL. In fact, many refs have been quite successful with a strong playing background (college and high school) and limited referee experience.
The general feedback on the 2004 season has been very positive and the league is grateful for everyone’s input. Feel free to attend the first meeting and to voice any of your personal likes and dislikes.
We are always striving for improvement.
You can mark a few special dates on your calendars already.
Wednesday, 5/25 will be our first night of volleyball at the beach. It will be a practice night for all and uniforms and schedules will be given out at that time. Hopefully it won’t rain for the third straight year.
Wednesday, 6/1 will be opening day and play will continue every Wednesday until 8/13.
On Saturday, 8/13, the league championships will be played – keep your schedules clear.
It will only be a short few months before the soap opera known as the RBVL tries to answer the questions: Does TBG understand when to wear horizontal and vertical stripes?
Will “It Be All Good” or “Not So Good” this season? Will Rocky retire the “reverse flipper” after 15 years? Will John Sica continue the lessons he learned from the Fab Five? Can the Transplants set a new attendance record?
It may seem a little cold to be thinking about beach volleyball but opening day will arrive quickly and there is much to be done beforehand.
If you have any questions before the meeting please call Patty Moule at 212-604-7087. This is her work number and a message can be left anytime, day or night. See you on 3/30.
