Grillo Wins Award For ‘Monarch Landscape’


Local artist Esther Grillo was been honored by the Precita Eyes Arts and Visitors Center in San Francisco, California, for her bus stop mural, “Monarch Landscape.” The mural was awarded the 2005 National Mural Award by the organization.  “The award celebrates the very finest mural created over the past year,” a letter from Susan Cervantes, the artistic director for the organization said in a letter to the Rockaway Artist Alliance, which entered the local mural in the contest. The mural was painted by students from John Adams High School, Beach Channel High School and by neighborhood volunteers. Pictured, Grillo with the winning mural.
