of the Rockaways
A Logo From Rockaway’s Past Glory!

Old time rollerskating fans probably remember the Rockaway Roller Rink, which was located on Beach 50 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard.

My research into this logo turned up an old Wave article in August of 1936. A short three-liner mentioned the Rockaway Arena at the aforementioned address, and that boxing and wrestling matches were held there.

A small story in December of 1938 stated that the arena was to be enlarged with a roller skating rink as the main attraction.

Other than what you have just read about the Edgemere Arena/Skating Rink, nothing else was found pertaining to this place of amusement for boxing, wrestling and skating fans.

In August of 1944, the Home Curtain Corporation took the place over to the open the largest curtain factory on the east coast.

Does anyone out there in Waveland have a photo or two of the pugilistic bone cracking arena and the roller rink? Send us a few and thank you much!
