Johnson Wins First Place
Allison Frances Johnson of Belle Harbor is starting the twirling year by continuing her undefeated modeling and twirling events of prior years. Allison is shown with her coach, Michelle O’ Deary of Levittown P.A.L. after she took first place in all of her events at the Eastern Seaboard Twirling Association competition. It was held at Our Lady of Mercy School on Super Bowl Sunday, February 6. What made this competition especially important to her is that she made up a baton twirling move and caught it on both attempts during her competitive events on Sunday. The move was a combination of a thumb-toss, switch hands and catch. It was a very impressive to see an 8 year old not only make up and execute the move but to also compete in both slow (modeling twirling) and fast (dance twirl) events. Allsion contributes her success to coach O’ Deary, dance teacher Annie Schnieder of Belle Harbor and gymnastics coach, Igor of Brooklyn Gymnsastics Academy.
