St. Patrick’s Day Parade/Rugby Doubleheader

Fort Tilden will again be the site for the annual NYPD vs. FDNY Rugby match and it will take place on St. Patrick’s Parade Day on March 5th at 11 a.m. The FDNY Team will consist of many local stars who also play for the famed Rockaway Fisheads including: John “Lt. Oak” O’Connor, George “Flag Boy” Johnson, Arthur Fitzpatrick, Kevin Wrafter, Phil Tufano, Bob Johnson, Greg McGuinness, cpa, Jimmy “Real Jim” Coyne, Tim “Noelle’s Guy” Richies, and James Turchiano (recently off light duty).

A rumor has been circulating that the Coursey brothers Darren and Kevin will be participating in this years match; both have recently retired from rugby with Kevin going on to a successful career as a cheerleader for the FDNY basketball team. The newly engaged Darren is said to be taking a day off from working out to participate in the game.

Following the match, both the FDNY and NYPD sides will march together in the parade. After the parade, all are welcome to come back to the rugby club (B. 113 and RBB) to enjoy the live music of the famed Shilelagh Law. Many of you will remember how this great band wowed the crowd at the Rockaway Rugby Irish Festival last summer. Local Musical genius’ Wine with Sue and young guns Inda Culture are also on tap for the afternoon.

Please come down and enjoy the day with your friends the Fisheads.

Rugger Pluggers:

Welcome back to Kiwi Boy Haden who has returned to the Fisheads after vacationing in Ireland.

Congrats to Artie and Maria Boyland on the birth of their second child Mathew Arthur. All are doing well.

Good Luck Tyrone Sperling who has moved on from his comfortable digs above the clubhouse and has forwarded his new address to buddies John and Jim Mccann(no relation).

Good Luck to John McCann who has entered himself in a National Stan Laurel look-alike contest. Could an appearance in a reality series be far behind?

Congrats to Mr. Shevy for being honored as a Deputy Grand Marshall in this years parade.
