Stand Up Comedy At Baxter’s Playhouse

The Rockaway Park Playhouse has announced that it is proud to present the world premiere of the Baxter Comedy Club at the Rockaway Park Playhouse located at 160 Beach 116th Street, Rockaway Park, NY 11694. Rockaway’s first and only comedy club will host its first night of stand-up comedy routines on Saturday, February 26 at 8:00 p.m.

New York’s finest comedians are scheduled to perform, including Angry Bob, Denny Drew, James Ryan, Simi Cohen, Johnny McDonald, and Crash Test Comic, Andy Caban. Live Irish musical performances will offer entertainment between comedy sets.

Early response to the comedy club has produced great interest, and event organizers Andy Caban and John Baxter are looking forward to the beginning of what could be a ground-breaking event in introducing comedy to the community of Rockaway Beach. “The response has been tremendous,” said Playhouse founder John Baxter, “We are considering making this a weekly thing.”

Rockaway Park Playhouse, which lends its stage to laugh makers for the first time, has been continually reinventing itself from the moment it opened its door over thirteen years ago. The Playhouse is best known for its many productions of original plays for family audiences, but it has a history of also hosting musical productions, classics of Irish theatre, and providing the home of John Baxter’s long-running public access television program. The quaint theatre is located half a block from the boardwalk and is credited with spawning the theatre revival that has been going on in Rockaway in recent years. “We do this because we have a lot of fun. To see the smiles on the people’s faces is worth the effort,” stated John Baxter, founder of the Rockaway Park Playhouse.
