Still Use Bridge Tokens? Renewals Due June 27

MTA Bridges and Tunnels will begin sending renewal applications this week to more than 14,000 residents who hold Rockaway/Broad Channel Resident stickers for use with resident program tokens on the Cross Bay and Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridges. The new stickers must be affixed to the left rear passenger-side window of vehicles by June 27, 2005.

“While the overwhelming majority of our Rockaway and Broad Channel customers use E-ZPass, there are some who still use tokens” said MTA Bridges and Tunnels President Michael C. Ascher. “We are re-certifying our current customers with new stickers to ensure that only Rockaway and Broad Channel residents can use these tokens to obtain resident discounts.”

Customers must to fill out and return the tear-off form at the bottom of the letter re-certifying their Rockaway or Broad Channel residency along with a photocopy of proof of Rockaway/Broad Channel residency. This can be a copy of driver’s license or a utility bill. The stickers are for the sole use of Rockaway and Broad Channel residents and are not transferable.

The Customer Service Center cannot do walk-in renewals because of the time required for validating the customer’s Rockaway/Broad Channel residency. The mail-in system offers customers the most convenience and turnaround time is usually only a matter of days once the renewal application is received. Starting the last week in May, customers using tokens with the old stickers will be given a reminder card at the toll plaza informing them of the June 27th deadline for the new sticker. In addition, they can also get an application in the cash lanes if they no longer have the application they were sent in the mail.

Rockaway/Broad Channel residents can purchase 12-trip token rolls ($1.167 per trip currently and $1.333 as of the toll change on March 13 th at 3:00 a.m.) for use at the Cross Bay and Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridges only. E-ZPass is the overwhelming favorite in the Rockaways because in addition to the convenience, with E-ZPass, the Cross Bay Bridge toll is fully rebated for Rockaway/ Broad Channel residents and the Marine Parkway Bridge toll is only $0.83 per trip currently and $1.00 as of the toll change on March 13 at 3:00 a.m.
