Smith Announces 2005-2006 Committee Assignments

State Senator Malcolm A. Smith announced that he has been appointed to seven different committees in the New York State Senate for the 2005-2006 term by Senate Democratic Leader David A. Peterson (D- Harlem). Senator Smith, re-elected to his third term in November, is again the ranking member of the Judiciary Committees.

“In my role as Ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, I’ll make clear the Democratic Conference’s position on appointments to State Courts,” Senator Smith said. The Codes and Finance Committees respectively address criminal justice and budget bills. Senator Smith noted that the number of committees in the Senate has been reduced to 31 for this term, and that he, and all the other Senators, will be serving on the 20% fewer committees.

“I may have fewer committee meetings to attend on a weekly basis, but rest assured that I will be working that much harder on the seven committees to which I am assigned,” Senator Smith concluded.
