Oh, to be fifty again! And, to have a birthday party celebration as the one thrown for Patty White Bernstein by her husband, Dr. Charles Bernstein (Dermatologist) last week at the Bay House, would be super. It was HOT! HOT! HOT!
Her guests of friends and family bounced away on the dance floor to the infectious beat of the Lustre Kings Band and milled around the room chatting away. You couldn’t help but get into the happy spirit of things. How fortunate for me. I lucked out through the graciousness and kindness of Donna and Jerry, Rae (parents of Gabriella, 8 yrs and Gerard 18 yrs) from Belle Harbor, whom I thank for this serendipity. They rescued me from the snow covered roads into Breezy as I awaited the non arrival of the “Blue Goose”. Since they were late and would be later if they took me all the way into Breezy they asked me to join them at Patty Bernstein’s party. Am I glad they did because it gave me the opportunity to meet such nice, nice people: Patty’s mother, Doris White and her longtime friend, Alice Fox, Bill Fox’s mother; Maureen McIntyre from Lincoln Walk who is engaged to Neil Sheridan; Patty’s sons, Timothy and Billy, 21, President of Design at Carnegie Mellon; Patty’s brother, Richard White; Loretta and Artie Holston and 18 yr son, John; Timmy Listen from Roxbury and one of Roxbury’s Volunteer Fire Fighters who put in a plea for a new ambulance (They couldn’t help injured at recent fire in Breezy); Pat and Nassau Det. Noreen Cribbin from Huntington, and many, many more. It was a fun, fun time with open bar, bountiful buffet and sounds of the Lustre Kings band that made you rock to their Rock and Roll band. My compliments to them, and thank you to Dr. Bernstein and Patty and al1 those who welcomed me so warmly. A surprise treat! Many more fun filled healthy, happy years, Patty.
Another happy note is that Bob Zelek is out of the hospital and doing well after serious surgery. Speedy recovery, Bob.
You will see Bobby Crowley around now after his bout with the flu that kept him out of sight for a few weeks. Glad you are back on track again.
The huge and exciting Gift Show was in town, not only at the Javits Center but the Piers as well. Whew! It was tough to cover. From Children’s and Antiques in the Gallery where exhibitors such as Pockets of Learning to The Gift is Love from Rockaway (116 St.). Displayed were: a bubble Wand for adults and kids made out of copper from Blue Hill Wand Works; Basket Weaving with instructive kits; Optically animated artwork from Eye Think; Cine-Spinner sun-catches that show running horses, gymnasts, ballerinas etc.; Melissa Eyewear with her multicolored frames and a myriad of see it you need it: house-gifts, tableware, hand mades: antiques, flowers and on and on.
NBC and HBO Sports Commentator Bob Costas was honored along with Red Sox pitcher, Curt Shilling and Jeff Torberg at the Baseball Assistant Team (BAT) dinner that not only gives fans an opportunity to interact with current and former players and Hall of Famers and eat like kings at buffet tables overloaded with enticing edibles, open bar followed by a four course filet dinner with wine, while raising money to assist members of the baseball family who have fallen on hard times. If you are an avid fan of baseball this is one event you must not miss. Get in touch with them for next year.
ABC Carpets on Broadway near W.19th St. was the site of the Aid to Artisans silent auction reception. Veddy, veddy upper-class attendees. Another beautiful affair with cocktails, specially made margaritas and Vino Italian Wine (sponsor) that was superb. Donations, for example - $100 for the restoration of vision for one child in Asia or Africa. Honored that evening were: Li Eldercort, International trend forecaster and educator; Preservation of Craft Award from Music D’Arte Popular of Mexico accepted by Marie Therese Herman de Arango; Artisan Advocate Award to Natalia Chanin for Project Alabama... If your interests lie here this is a special evening for you especially when you can surround yourself with the beautiful antiques, chandeliers, sofas, chairs that give you the urge to want to own them.
Fort Worth Texas with their Hooves and Horsepower was in Town evidenced by their horses and bulls on display outside the Times Square Studios on B’way, inside stock car Interstate Batteries Chevrole stood while BBQ Ribs and Texas Fare was being served to the media to promote NASCAR Races that are held in Ft. Worth ( where you will also find a top Zoo and an authentic Bull Run every day just for the tourist.) and, of course, some NASCAR winners and friendly, friendly people. IF you cannot get to Texas right away you can catch the flavor of it at the foot stomping musical, “Lone Star Love” which I highly recommend now playing on West 42 St.
If you love fresh cheese you would have enjoyed the fresh cheeses and dairy products from Israel along with complimentary wines from the Artisans at 500 8 Ave.
Of course, the newest and latest cause that is filing the event venues in New York is for the much needed and heart wrenching Tsunami Fundraiser. Guests poured into Christies at Rockefeller Center the other night to pay $500 pp to witness the Indian Designer, Amand Jon Fashion Show of Chiffon beaded glamorous gowns, coats and tops. Graceful dancers from Tresh and a sit down dinner with Hillary and Bill Clinton followed by a live auction while giving aid to the Tsunami victims. A beautiful evening, indeed.
Need a lift? Most women over 50 do, but the lift I am referring to is mostly for young girls, especially for young girls who wish they are more endowed or could show more cleavage. Lilly of France new bra Lightweight Lift x Bra can solve your problem without surgery. Their new bras have a pull tab to adjust your bra to the amount of cleavage you desire. Forget about undergoing surgery, pain, discomfort, loss of sensation and downtime and risk. And, besides, what I hear from men is that they don’t like it. Why? “They don’t move a millimeter” my advice…. get a trick bra instead.
