Stella Maris Searching For The Right Formula

Stella Maris defeated Nazareth in a league game to improve their league record to 10-3. A non-league loss to Tottenville placed their overall record at 10-6. In third place, SM still has four league games remaining: Bishop Ford (home), St. Saviour (away) and St. John’s Prep (home and away). That means four games with an eye on division playoffs.

The Lady Flippers need to address very specific areas if they are to successfully navigate the playoff waters. Defensively, the team must communicate and the rebounding needs to be improved. On the offensive end is where the team tends to nose dive into “jekyll/hyde”. Consistency has been lacking throughout the year. With several players capable of hitting the three, a very strong front line and tremendous team speed SM has explosive ability: which they have at various times.

The problem has been the spurts have been needed to make up for droughts. A run and gun team is more prone to turnovers. However, the Flippers need to make better decisions in the open court and take care of the ball when they do.

When these things fall into place this will be a team primed for a playoff run and defense of a Championship.

Flipper Footnotes: EC congrats on the well-deserved promotion. Ladies pay up for foul shots. Kelley needs her Senior Day. MJ: only 1 foul? Was the ref sleeping? Nike? Adidas? Who needs them? Icy/hot should be our sponsor. TG: 2 lines forming a 90* angle is a CORNER. Congrats to Jack Hurley, Charlie Marguardt and Sean Gigliello on their selection to the LI Lightning.
