Long Island Blood Donations Needed
Long Island Blood Services reports that its supply of blood has shrunk to alarming low levels as a result of this past weekend’s snowstorm, which forced the cancellation of over 20 blood drives and the weekend closure of five permanent donation centers. In all, nearly 1,000 anticipated donations were not collected.
Long Island Blood Services officials have issued an emergency appeal and are urging current, lapsed and potential donors to make an immediate blood or platelet donation or to quickly schedule a blood drive by calling 1-800-933-BLOOD or going to www.nybloodcenter.org. Donors must be at least age 17, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in generally good health.
