Cuomo At Simon Club February 10
The Good Government Regular Democratic Club will be holding the first of a series of community forums to meet candidates running for city and statewide office with former HUD Secretary Andrew Cuomo, son of Governor Mario Cuomo, who will be seeking the office of Attorney General of New York State. The Attorney General is the chief law enforcement official of the state.
The forum will be held on Thursday, February 10 at club headquarters, 112-20 Beach Channel Drive (opposite Waldbaum’s) at 7:45 P.M. sharp. The meeting is open to all interested members of the community. Bagels and cream cheese courtesy of Beach Bagels, cake courtesy of Key Food and coffee courtesy of Wendy’s are served. Andrew Cuomo served as HUD Secretary from 1997 to 2001. He cracked down on waste, fraud and abuse, created an Enforcement Center headed by an FBI agent and began the first comprehensive inspection of all housing subsidized or insured by HUD.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Fordham University in 1979 and a law degree from Albany Law School in 1982, Cuomo became campaign manager for his father, Mario Cuomo, in the 1982 campaign for governor. In 1986 Cuomo founded Housing Enterprise for the Less Privileged, the nation’s largest private provider of transitional housing for the homeless. It provides education, job training, treatment for drug and alcohol abuse and mental health services.
Cuomo lives in New York and was a candidate for the Governorship in 2002. He taught at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and recently wrote Crossroads: The Future of American Politics.
Simon urges everyone to take this opportunity to meet, greet and question Andrew Cuomo and welcome him to our community.
