St. John’s Visitor Dies Mysteriously In Bathroom

By Howard Schwach

An unidentified man visiting the St. John’s Hospital emergency room on Monday was found dead in a bathroom at the hospital, according to police sources.

The police say that the man, reportedly in his 40’s, entered the Beach 19 Street facility at about 9:15 p.m. and went directly to the emergency room’s bathroom.

Just minutes later, a doctor entered the bathroom and found the man face down on the floor.

Police say that they do not suspect foul play in the man’s death, but that the body was taken to the Chief Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy to determine cause of death.

Penny Chin, a spokesperson for St. John’s Hospital told The Wave that the hospital had no information on the sudden death, nor would she identify the man.

“The Medical Examiner has the case,” she said, adding that further comment would have to come from that office.

A spokesperson for the Medical Examiner’s office declined comment and said that the autopsy may take several weeks.
