Hit And Run Leaves EMT In Hospital

An accident that resulted in two unidentified EMS workers being transported to Jamaica Hospital and a Pennsylvania man transported to Queens Central Booking made news reports on Wednesday morning when a 2004 Chevy Malibu reportedly cut off and hit an EMS ambulance at Beach 94 Street and the Rockaway Freeway, causing the ambulance to hit an pillar supporting the subway tracks of the A Line. According to Police sources, the ambulance was traveling westbound under the elevated structure at approximately 8 a.m. when it was struck by the Malibu, driven by Juan Valet, 22, of Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania. One of the EMS workers was treated and released at the hospital. The other was admitted with head trauma and reportedly underwent oral surgery for his injuries. Valet, who left the scene of the accident, was arrested by police of the 100 Precinct nearby Beach 97 Street and charged with leaving the scene of an accident where injuries were incurred. An unidentified 17-year-old female passenger in the Malibu was not injured and claimed that the ambulance had been speeding.
