Sorrentino Flips For Double Dutch Festival
The Sorrentino Recreational Center was once again proud to host the 13th annual Holiday Double Dutch Festival on December 28, 2004. Skips, jumps, hops and even flips were all to be seen that day. The festivities began at 10:00 a.m. and competition commenced at 11:00 a.m.
Teams from Far Rockaway, Brooklyn, Bronx, Hempstead and Baldwin came out to showcase their jump rope talents. The elementary and high school jumpers from the Stan Pepper Steppers’ World Championship Team, along with the Brooklyn Jazzy Jumpers, were cheered on by the more than 100 home fans. Parents, friends and onlookers packed into the Sorrentino gym to watch them capture another title.
The Double Dutch Holiday Festival was designed to bring family and friends together during the holiday season. The teams that competed ranged from the third grade level to the high school level. Top honors went to Stan’s Pepper Steppers Championship High School Team of Laquasha Brown, Camilla Ensley, Camay Cardwell and Cherise Bartow.
