Spinout Sends Driver Through The Roof

A Brooklyn man was ejected through the open sunroof of his 2004 Jeep after he lost control of the SUV near Riis Park on New Year’s Eve, police said. Bill Kontolios, 47, was speeding along the curved, eastbound section of roadway that flows into Beach Channel Drive at about 10 a.m. – possibly racing with another driver – when he misjudged the curve. The vehicle went out of control and barrel-rolled when the tires hit the sand at the edge of the median. Kontolios, who suffered back and neck injuries as well as cuts to his face, was rushed to Jamaica Hospital.
