Lighthouse Opens EMT Training Class

An Emergency Medial Technician (EMT) Class, the sixth in the history of the Lighthouse and The Rock Ambulance Corps, will start January 10, at 6 p.m. sharp at St. Johns Hospital’s School of Nursing on Beach 19 Street in Far Rockaway.

Reverend Donald Ventura, the Lighthouse Founder as well as the senior instructor for the course, said, “There are still a limited number of seats available for this class, we invite those who will be eighteen years of age and older to come and register on the tenth.”

The Lighthouse Corporation is in its ninth year and recently received a Proclamation from Queens Borough President Helen Marshall declaring November 4th Lighthouse Day in the Borough of Queens.

The Lighthouse also ran a Summer Youth Emergency Care and Health Education Program in which more than two hundred Rockaway youth were trained and employed in collaboration with the city’s Department of Youth, the Rockaway Development and Revitalization Corporation, St. John’s Hospital, Beacon School 198, The Citibank Group, The Charles Hayden Foundation, Assembly Member Michelle Titus, Assembly Member Audrey Pheffer, The New York City Parks Department, City Councilman James Sanders Jr. and Queens Borough President Helen Marshall.

Following a request from the Lighthouse to obtain the newly vacated Fire House at Beach 58 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard as the new home for The Rock Volunteer Ambulance (A division of the Light House Corporation), Council Member Sanders, and Queens Borough President are working to that end. Volunteers we have been working with the Fire Dept and both police precincts covering Emergency Medical calls through-out the Peninsula, as the ambulance charter runs from Beach 168th Street to the Nassau County line. Lighthouse is always looking for new volunteers, and volunteers are trained at no cost.
