The NYC Department of Sanitation will collect discarded Christmas trees for chipping and composting citywide starting Thursday, January 6 and continuing through Saturday, January 15.

The Department asks residents to remove all tree stands, tinsel, lights, and ornaments from trees before placing them out for collection. Do not place trees in plastic bags. Clean, non-bagged Christmas trees can be left out at the curb anytime from January 6 through January 15. Trees will be chipped into compost, which will be distributed to parks, playing fields, and community gardens throughout the city.

For more information about the Christmas tree collection visit the Department of Sanitation’s website at www.nyc.gov/sanitation or the City’s helpline at 311.
