Guardian Stranded In Jamaica Bay

Don Riepe, Jamaica Bay Guardian, was stranded in JoCo Marsh last week while repairing an osprey platform. “I made the mistake of working during an outgoing tide,” said Don, “and had to wait for six hours until the tide came back.” Riepe was finishing up his work for the year and it was his last day before taking the guardian boat out for the winter. “Since I work in the shallows all season I guess I forgot the old axiom - Time and tide wait for no man - which is especially true in Jamaica Bay. Luckily it wasn’t too cold yet.” Pictured, high & dry in Jamaica Bay, Don Riepe relaxes aboard the American Littoral Society’s Guardian boat.
