Local Council Members Aid Addabbo FHC

The two City Council members who represent Rockaway have teamed together to provide $500 thousand for the building effort of the Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center, a spokesperson for the center announced recently.

“New York City Council Members James Sanders Jr. and Joe Addabbo Jr. worked together to ensure this funding come to the district in greatest need for the services and with a mutual capital project under construction,” says the center’s Zandra Meyers. “This is a new source of funding for Southeast Queens. Traditionally this funding has gone to other parts of Queens, mostly Northern Queens. The criterion for the funding is that the project must service constituents from more than one district. This, until recently has left the Rockaways off the radar.”

The Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center is the only federally qualified health center with its main offices in Queens. The clients are from all over the borough and even have some people coming from other parts of the city.

“This $500.000 will allow us to put back some of the items we had to cost value engineered out of the budget. A sprinkler system, a second elevator and fencing to name a few important items,” commented Dr. Peter Nelson, Executive Director of the health center.

“We can also make our building a “smart building”, added Chief Operating Officer, Sandy Fogg. This will save on utilities by the building being equipped to “wake itself up” and “shut itself down

We congratulate our elected officials and their mighty efforts in making this project a reality.

Council Member Sanders joined the Strategic Planning Committee of the health center to make the announcement and to assure the committee members of his continued commitment to his constitutes of the Rockaways. “This is home, and a man always takes care of home.” Sanders continues, “ I look forward to bringing the same kinds of assurance to the other parts of my district, for now my “home” is more than Rockaway.”
