Mabel Brandford

Nurses Aide

Mabel Brandford, a Rockaway resident for 20 years, died on December 23. She was 76.

Brandford, who was born in Colon, Panama on December 10, 1928, worked as a nurses aide.

She was preceded in death by her father, Reginaldo Dotton; and one son, Alphonso Brandford Jr.

Brandford is survived by her husband of 55 years, Alphonso Brandford of Queens; sons, Ricardo and Gregorio Brandford of Queens; daughters, Linda Worrell of New Jersey and Raquel Nunley of Massachusetts; her mother, Eugenia Woods of Panama; daughters in law, Carnetha Brandford of Queens and Sherry Smith of Queens; grandsons, Ricard Brandford, Raymond Brandford of Queens, Gregory Brandford of Newburgh, Rudy Thomas of New Jersey and Kevin Nunley of Massachusetts; granddaughters, Angela Stephenson, Kamuella Worrell, Soreya Nunley and Alexis Brandford; great grandchildren, Rayquan, Jalen Kai, Jamari, Marquise, Jordan, Rudacia; and other family members and friends.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, with a service at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Disposition was at Pinelawn Cemetery.

Dorothy Farrington

Unit Secretary, Peninsula Hospital

Dorothy Farrington, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died on December 23.

Farrington, who was born in Rockaway Beach, was a unit secretary at Peninsula Hospital.

She is survived by her sons, John and Thomas; daughters, Janet Miles and Carol Roldan; 11 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A mass was celebrated at St. Rose of Lima. Interment was at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.

Kevin Darnell Hendricks

Youth Counselor

Kevin Darnell Hendricks, a Rockaway resident for 15 years, died on December 20. He was 26.

Hendricks, who was born in Manhattan on July 5, 1978, was a youth counselor.

He is survived by his parents, Darlene Hendricks and Aaron McDonald; son, K’Von D. Hendricks; fiancĂ©, Tanisha Evans of Pennsylvania; grandparents, Edward Brown, Berion McDonald and Ruby McDonald of North Carolina; step -sisters, Tomeka Mcdonald and Ashley Blair; aunts, Roberta Hendricks, Diane Mcdonald, Merion Burns, Valerie Weekes, Clarice Ballard, Edna Brown, Mararet Frierson, Paula Blair; uncles, Robert Frierson of Virginia; Richard Mcdonald, of North Carolina, Joathan Hendricks, Richard Brown, Edward Brown Jr., Clayton Brown and Paul Ballard; Godmother, Kim Austin; Godfather, “Black”; Stepmother, Janice Mcdonald; Stepfather, Lloyd Blair; extended family, Pam, Squeaky, Peanut, Shant, James, Heart; and other family members and friends.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home. A mass was celebrated at Greater Faith Baptist Church in the Bronx. Interment was at Whitebridge Cemetery in Eatontown, New Jersey.

Brenda Raiford

Board of Education Employee

Brenda Raiford, a Rockaway resident for 30 years, died on December 21. She was 50.

Raiford, who was born in Brooklyn on April 29, 1954, worked for the Board of Education.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Earl Raiford.

Raiford is survived by her mother, Bertha Raiford; son, Jamez Herd,one; daughter, Simone Caldwell; niece, Lamorne Raiford, whom she raised as her own child but was her sister’s child; two grandchildren, Jamez Herd Jr., and Kiza Cardwell; daughter in law, Nicole Herd; an aunt, Willie Mae Dennis (Robert); 19 nieces and nephews; and other family members and friends.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, with a service at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery in Great Neck.
