Gateway Celebrates Aviation History

Photo courtesy of Lockheed Martin Corporation The National Park Service has announced that Gateway National Recreation Area’s Floyd Bennett Field would be the site of a celebration of aviation history on Saturday, January 8, at 1:00 p.m. This event is being held in commemoration of Floyd Bennett Field’s significant contributions to the development of flight during the 1930’s.

This celebration will include a ranger - guided tour of the Hangar Row Historic District, and a discussion of the pioneers of flight who flew from the field in the 1930’s. Among the featured pilots will be Amelia Earhart, Wiley Post, and Howard Hughes, the subject of the new film biography, “The Aviator.”
