Airport Communities Capital Fund

City Councilman James Sanders, Chair of the Airport Community Advisory Board, will convene the Board to give airport community residents an opportunity to hear about the new Board’s role in the oversight of the use of $100 million. The money will be allocated for capital projects that have a public purpose. Residents will have an opportunity to ask questions and suggest types of projects that they would like considered in the impacted communities surrounding the airport.

“This is a great opportunity to help plan the use of these funds towards the betterment of the residents that are most directly impacted by the airport being in their neighborhood,” said Sanders. This Board was created by the Mayor of the City of New York for the purpose of providing a communication vehicle between the Port Authority and the City of New York on issues of concern to local residents. Other members of the Board are Council members Addabbo, Comrie Jr., Katz, Liu, Monserrate, Sears and Vallone Jr. Each Councilmember will represent their impacted community. The meeting will take place at Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology located at 86-01, 23rd Avenue in Flushing on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“My colleagues and I are looking forward as an oversight committee, to champion the best recommendations that come forward from the community,” said Sanders.
