Rosalyn M. Borelli Homemaker

Rosalyn M. Borelli

Rosalyn M. Borelli, a Rockaway resident for 40 years, died on December 20.

Borelli, who was born in Queens, was a homemaker. She was a Roxbury Moon Shiner, a member of the Roxbury Volunteer Fire Department, Ladies Auxiliary of the Mayor’s Committee and a volunteer worker for Meals on Wheels.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Borelli. She is survived by her sons, Robert and Chris; daughters, Linda Ridzi, Jeanann Wiener and Donna McCaluley; brother, Edward Herzog; sisters, Delores Tzoucalis; and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A mass was celebrated at St. Genevieve in Rockaway Point. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.

Cardell Leonard Feilds

NY Housing Authority Employee

Cardell Leonard Feilds, a Rockaway resident for 45 years, died on December 11. He was 51.

Feilds, who was born in the Bronx on July 23, was an employee of the New York Housing Authority.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wardell Feilds Sr.

Feilds is survived by his son, Cardell Hicks of Far Rockaway; his mother, Laura Feilds of Far Rockaway; brothers, Wardell Feilds Jr. of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Latasha Feilds of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Ronald Fields of Far Rockaway; aunts, Dorothy Hayes of Baton Rouge and Marie Fields of New Roads; uncles, Lionel Fields of New York, George Fields of New Orleans Louisiana, L.C.Fields of New Roads Louisiana, great aunt, Victoria James of New Orleans; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, with visitation at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Disposition was at Oxford Hills Crematory.

June (nee Pierce) Holmberg


June (nee Pierce) Holmberg, who was born on the peninsula and graduated from a local high school, died on December 11. She was 82.

Holmberg, who was born in Far Rockaway on October 27, 1922, graduated from Far Rockaway High School. She was a homemaker.

Holmberg was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Holmberg, in 1999.

She is survived by her son, Richard Holmberg of Florida; daughters, Frances Jonza of Cedarhurst and Joanna Heslin of Lawrence; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Meserole Funeral Home. Cremation took place privately at Fresh Pond Crematory in Middle Village.

June Gagliastro Magallanes

Former Waldbaum’s Employee

June Gagliastro Magallanes, who worked in Waldbaum’s in Rockaway Park for more than 20 years and had many friends in Rockaway, died on December 13. She was 51.

Magallanes, who was born in Flushing, was a computer programmer.

She is survived by her husband, Eddie; parents, Rose and Joe Gagliastro; sisters, Celia (John) and Diane; niece, Lauren; nephews, Joey and Christopher; extended family “the girls” and Pepper.

Funeral arrangements were kept private. A mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima on January 9, 2005 at 5:30 p.m.

Frankie Soto


Frankie Soto, a Rockaway resident for 30 years, died on December 16. He was 48.

Soto, who was born in Far Rockaway on December 8, 1956, was a driver. He was a parishioner at Light of the World Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Bony Feliciano.

Soto is survived by his parents, Frank and Blanco Serrano; daughter, Carissa; sisters, Maria and Iris; brothers, Eddie and John; uncles, Wally and Louie; nieces, Elizabeth, Emily, Valerie, Priscilla, Christine, Naomi, Justine and Nicole; nephews, Christopher, Ruben, Jonathan and Eddie; and other family and friends.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home. Disposition was at Oxford Hills Crematory in Chester, New York.

Rita Teresa Tung

Apartment Building Super

Rita Teresa Tung, who with her husband was a superintendent of an apartment building on Beach 120 Street for more than 50 years, died on December 23. She was 81.

Tung, who was born in New York, New York, on December 4, 1923, was a nurse’s aide. She resided in Putnam County for the past 6 years.

Tung was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew P. Tung.

She is survived by her sons Paul, Robert, Raymond and Michael; daughters Arlene and Carol; grandchildren, Kristopher, Peter, Erica, Elizabeth, Vibeke, Jan, Martin, Matthew, Rachel, Harley and Krystyn; great grandchildren, Sarah Caitlin, Frank Andrew and Jesse Andrew.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Adam Cordovano Funeral Home in Carmel, New York. Interment will be at Rosehill Memorial Gardens in Putnam Valley, New York on December 28.
