PS 114 Chess Club Out At Crack Of Dawn
The Belle Harbor School - P.S. 114 Chess Club members are, literally and figuratively, “lost in thought.” Every Monday and Friday morning, at precisely 7 a.m. sharp, Belle Harbor School Chess Instructor Ron Gerson discusses the previous Sunday New York Times Chess Column, written by chess authority Robert Byrne. Club members evaluate the game that Byrne has selected, playing out the remainder of classic games, with the goal of critically analyzing different, yet plausible, *justifiable* “end game” strategies. Kudos to P.S. 114 Principal Brian R. O’Connell and to our visionary, benevolent P.S 114 PTA for providing the funding that turned our Chess Club from a distant dream into an almost decade-long reality As Chess Instructor Gerson has often stated, “Every Chess master was ONCE a beginner.” Checkmate!
