Jason David Ian Alexander Jr.

Jason David Ian Alexander Jr., an infant whose family members are lifelong Hammels residents, died on December 9. Born on December 27, 2003 he was 11 months old.

He was preceded in death by his baby cousin Faith Mondesir.

Alexander is survived by his parents, Belinda Davis and Jason Alexander; brother, Vincent; sisters, Jennira and Aaliyah; grandparents, Mary Davis and Velda and Lawrence Alexander; godparents Janice and Rodney Chapman; three friends, Mikey, Janella and Skye; and other family members and friends.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, with services at Gaffney’s Friendship Chapel. Interment was at Amityville “Baby Land” Cemetery.

Michael Malik Brannon

Michael Malik Brannon, a Beach Channel High School graduate who coached basketball and boxing, died on December 4. He was 38.

Brannon, who many called “Malik,” is survived by his parents, Hattie and Jose Delgardo of Far Rockaway; daughters, Shanequa and Naomie Brannon of Lithonia, Georgia; a sister, Bernadette Brannon of Far Rockaway; brothers Carlos (Marty) Brannon of Far Rockaway and Emmanuel Brannon of Cincinnati, Ohio; his wife Diana Brannon; godbrother Thomas Martin of North Carolina; godsisters, Lolita Martin of Macon Georgia and Diamond Howell of Georgia; godson, Moochie Johnson of Far Rockaway; goddaughter, Jessica Love Jamison of Jamaica, Queens; godmother, Lillie Pearl of Macon, Georgia; aunts, Della Wilson, Irene Wallace, Izella Collin Tank, Jessie Reid, Stella Crump, Mary Rosenburgh and Victoria Fonco all of New York also Louise Howie and Margaret Ford of North Carolina and Carrie Watson of Charleston, Texas; uncles, Gene Wallace and Angelo Fonco of New York; and other family and friends.

William “Billy” Cholakis

Owned Local Businesses

William “Billy” Cholakis, a local business owner and longtime resident of Rockaway and Broad Channel, died at his home in Daytona, Florida on December 7. He was 81.

Cholakis, who was born in Rockaway Beach, served in the United States Army during World War II. He owned Leon’s Auto Body on Beach 116 Street in Rockaway and the “C” Club restaurant in Broad Channel. He lived in the both communities for a combined 62 years.

He is survived by his son, Leon; grandson, Leon Jr.; daughter in law, Maritza; sister, Anna; a brother, Arthur; and other family members.

Arthur Eberle

Data Processing Manager

Arthur Eberle, who grew up in Breezy Point, died on December 8 following short battle with cancer. He was 66.

Eberle, who was born in Brooklyn on September 1, 1938, grew up in Breezy Point and moved to Brick, New Jersey in 1960. In 1985, he moved to Sherrills Ford, North Carolina. Eberle was the manager of data processing for Royal Insurance Company. He was a member of the Planning Board, Jaycees and Shade Tree Commission in Brick New Jersey. Eberle was also a volunteer swim coach and a parishioner of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Sherrills Ford, North Carolina.

Eberle is survived by his wife of 46 years, Irene Eberle; son, Mark Eberle of Forked River, New Jersey; daughter, Kathleen (Richard) Larsen of Point Pleasant, New Jersey; seven grandchildren; and a cousin, Fletcher Eberle of Breezy Point.

Funeral arrangements were kept private.

Agnes L. Janicelli

Switchboard Operator

Agnes L. Janicelli, who lived in Rockaway for nearly 20 years, died on December 11.

Janicelli, who was born in Manhattan, was a parishioner at St. Camillus Church, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and the Golden Age Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis J. Janicelli and brothers, Edward and John Garrett. Also by Mae Dums and Alice Martin.

Janicelli is survived by her daughter, Caral Ann Suriano; son, Kevin Janicelli; brothers, James and Thomas Garrett; sister, Helen Jacques; grandchildren, John, Christopher, Jason Suriano, Caral Ann Carnevale, Julia and Olivia Janicelli.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. Interment was at Gate of Heaven, Valhalla, New York.

Melvina Lester

Melvina Lester, an Arverne resident for 40 years, died on December 2. She was 66.

Lester, who was born in Brook County, Georgia on July 27, 1938, was a domestic.

Lester is survived by her sisters, Deloris Miles, Lillie Mae Burnett of Rochester New York, Melvinie Merritt and Mattie Hollis of California and Mary Sherman and Ettie Smith of Georgia; brothers, Sylvester and Willie Hollis of Florida and Pharoah Hollis of Rochester, New York; and other family members and friends.

Mary B. Meade

Homemaker

Mary B. Meade, a longtime Breezy Point resident, died on December 2.

Meade, who was born in County Galway, Ireland, was a homemaker. She began summering in Breezy Point in 1937 and moved there year-round in 1975.

Meade was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph.

She is survived by her son, Thomas (Mary); daughters, Rose-Marie Jules (Frank), Frances Gorman (Jack); sister, Nonie Connelly of Ireland; 13 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home with a service at St. Thomas More Church, Rockaway Point. Interment was at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Karla E.M. Parsons

Seamstress, Caterer

Karla E.M. Parsons, a Far Rockaway resident for 60 years, died on November 4. She was 81.

Parsons, who was born in Brooklyn on June 30, 1923, was a parishioner at First Presbyterian Russell Sage Memorial Church in Far Rockaway. She worked as a seamstress and caterer.

Parsons was preceded in death by her daughter, Jessica Schell.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen Parsons of Oklahoma and Karlise Murphy of Long Beach, Long Island; brother, Arnold Maarberg of Florida; sister, Ethel Halvorsen of New Jersey; five grandchildren; and give great grandchildren.

Loretta C. Quadrozzi

Loretta C. Quadrozzi, a lifelong Rockaway resident, died on December 10.

Quadrozzi was born in Far Rockaway. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her mother, Angelica Messenetti; husband, Patrick; sons, Constantine and Mark; brother, Ralph Messenetti; sisters, Maria and Charlotte; and grandchildren, Alexandra and Brianna.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home. A mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Good Counsel, in Inwood. Interment was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Theresa Samuel-Benjamin

Theresa Samuel-Benjamin, who was educated in Rockaway, died on December 7. She was 50.

Samuel-Benjamin, who was born in Queens on May 24, 1954, was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her father, Isaac Wilson and mother, Buthine Samuel.

Samuel-Benjamin is survived by her husband, Robert Benjamin of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; daughter, Shaunique Sonjui; sons, Lamont Samuel, Rahiem Samuel and Terence Samuel, of Far Rockaway; adopted children, Quaneisha Samuel and Anthony Samuel; son in law, Joelle Songui; daughters in law to be Tidleek Capers and Kero Ebanks of Far Rockaway; sisters, Sadie Hines, of Far Rockaway, Nadia Berry, Luticia Greene, Far Rockaway, Joyce Wilson and Felicia Wilson; a stepsister, Wanda Gilliam, of Far Rockaway; brothers, James Samuel, Thomas Samuel of Far Rockaway, Christopher Warnermaker; grandchildren, Tiara, Joelle, Terena, Tamika and Lakeem; brothers in law, C.J. Alicias Evelyn Warrick

Alicias Evelyn Warrick, a Rockaway resident, died on December 8. She was 54.

Warrick, who was born in Arden, Buncombe County, North Carolina on March 21, 1950, was a graduate of Dodge High School in the Bronx. She also graduated from Bronx Community College with a degree in business and accounting. Warrick worked as a comptroller.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen and sister, Natalie.

Warrick is survived by her mother, Evelyn of Asheville, North Carolina; children, Rosalind Warrick of Owings Mill, Maryland and Rodney Warrick of Queens; granddaughter, Zayna and her father Donyell Parham; her companion of 14 years, Brian Johnson; a brother James Burton of Westbury; and other family members.
